UPS’s McKleveen Honored As “Volunteer of the Year”

Safe America Foundation Recognizes Extraordinary Contributions Volunteer Made To Improving National Preparedness

Atlanta, Dec. 12, 2011 – The Marietta, Georgia-based Safe America Foundation honored UPS Communications Manager Jack McKlveen as its 2011 “Volunteer of the Year.”  This award recognizes Mr. McKlveen’s outstanding contributions towards encouraging one million Americans to participate in the Foundation’s annual national emergency preparedness initiative, the  Be Safe America program and its March to 1 Million campaign.

Started in 2011, Be Safe America is a five-year campaign by the non-profit Safe America Foundation to increase public grassroots readiness. The campaign takes place each fall and works to build truly safer communities by forming public/private partnerships that can rapidly respond to emerging critical issues.  One of the efforts main goals for 2011 was to encourage a million Americans to “pledge to drill” some form of preparedness exercise.

“Jack’s efforts in hosting forums and bringing together new partners from across the business community has absolutely contributed to Be Safe America’s tremendous success,” said Safe America President and CEO, Len Pagano. “Our Foundation is truly blessed to have such a volunteer leader helping us to make America a safer more prepared nation.”

As manager of crisis management at UPS, Jack McKlveen is responsible for the company's global crisis prevention, preparedness and response processes. This includes the development and implementation of prevention programs and crisis exercises. He is also a member of UPS’s Enterprise Risk Management team. McKlveen has recently coordinated UPS’s preparedness planning for a potential avian flu pandemic.
