Safe America visits White House; discusses preparedness campaign
Safe America President Len Pagano and Executive Vice President for Programming Mary Lou Pagano were invited to the White House recently to discuss plans for Safe America’s March to 1 Million project, part of its larger 9/11 Drill Down for Safety program.
During discussions with Mrs. Obama’s Chief of Staff, Tina Tchen, Mr. Pagano discussed how the Foundation plans to roll out a program on all-hazard safety during mid-summer.
The goal of involving 1 million people was discussed, along with the resolve to engage children. Mrs. Pagano added that 2011 would include the re-introduction of a “service to America” contest. Partners include University of Missouri and its eMINTS program, along with the National PTA.
“We were delighted with the response to our program ideas, and we hope that Mrs. Obama will find a way to work with us this year,” said Pagano. “We think this opportunity to share our vision of how grassroots preparedness can be enhanced was a compliment to Safe America and our Board of Directors for their hard work in launching the 9/11 Drill Down for Safety campaign.”
Discussions were held recently with both the New York Stock Exchange and the New York-New Jersey Port Authority. It is hoped that the program will have some engagement with both organizations during the launch event in mid-summer.
